The Panasonic AK-UC4000 camera system offers future-proofed UHD potentials and teaching advantages.
FREMONT, CA: The University of Central Lancashire creates a future-proof UHD-capable studio for enhanced teaching using Panasonic Professional Camera Systems. The £550,000 studio upgrade allowed the university to move from SD to UHD with the choice of HDR and a 12G workflow environment to mitigate cable needs in a six-week project carried out before the academic year starts.
The studio refit, finished by systems integrator Altered Images, comprised four Panasonic AK-UC4000 system cameras, including the AK-UCU600 Camera Control Unit, AK-HRP1000 Remote Operation Panel, and AK-HVF100 LCD color viewfinder. Staff and learners were impressed with the functionality of the system for teaching. It saves settings made on the ROP onto an SD card to save time and enhance production value. It enables the production team to create optimal settings for a program and use them for the next show without manually reconfiguring. The LCD viewfinder on the camera body can be leveraged for Focus-Assist functionality, making it seamless to teach students rather than leveraging peaking video monitoring tools. The bracket connecting the LCD color viewfinder to the camera body offers a great mobility range, enabling the camera operator to see over the camera when teaching.
The university was impressed with the great working relationship it rapidly established with Panasonic, who offered advice, a demo unit for training. The university looked at choices from all of the significant camera system manufacturers with three-chip sensor options. But when the company considered them against the single-chip Panasonic AK-UC4000 camera system in the tests, it couldn’t see any disadvantages.
The color science in the UC4000 camera is significant, the dynamic range is extensive, and the sensitivity is fantastic. The UC4000 camera will offer everything that customers want to do in a studio environment and gives the right platform to teach the next generation of camera operators by working with an industry-standard camera system.
