Remote learning offers flexibility for students to learn from anywhere and for parents to help their children.
FREMONT, CA: The education sector changed in the blink of an eye. With the corona spreading, thousands of schools closed across the world. Educators and students stayed at home. School scrambled to offer students with laptops and ensure internet connectivity. Teachers scrambled to transmit their lessons and assignments to an online environment. Parents scrambled to provide their children support to process the abrupt change. Amid all of this change, concepts like remote learning, distance learning, online learning, virtual learning, blended learning, hybrid learning, and homeschooling came in. Though many use these terms interchangeably, there are differences to consider. Here is more about the importance of remote learning.
Remote learning is the process of learning performed at a distance. Rather than having learners and teachers come together in person, remote learning means that students are distanced from their educators and peers. Effective remote learning attempts to mirror the classroom setting virtually, as much as possible when the student and teacher are in two places.
Though there are several ways that remote learning can occur, the best experiences happen when teachers couple synchronous learning opportunities that replicate the classroom with asynchronous opportunities that encourage independent study. Whether it is a computer or tablet with internet access or a mobile phone, technology is essential for students and teachers to share learning experiences in real-time. Besides, meeting platforms enable classes to gather and collaborate.
Remote learning is different. It provides a course of study online without trying to replicate the face-to-face classroom experience. Remote courses are developed over months to offer students a series of learning engagements tailored to an online environment. Rather than offering traditional lectures, or a sequence of assignments to complete, online learning comprises several modalities that navigate students through content modules. Specific attention is paid to eliciting emotion and motivation in students and being intentional in encouraging learners to apply their knowledge frequently. The social and emotional parts of learning are gaining much more attention in the learning world in social-emotional learning.
