Learning and success depend on student engagement. Educators have struggled to maintain students' enthusiasm for school. Students can feel disengaged and alienated in the conventional classroom-based method of segmenting and punctuating their day with bells. They are making learning more engaging results in students achieving higher grades, being more satisfied with the learning experience, and graduating at a higher rate.
Set the tone
Warm-up activities allow you to learn about students' interests and respond positively to create connections with them. Getting students to share their interests is a great way to connect with them. Teachers can use this as an idea to allow students to connect with the teacher. As a part of any lesson, teacher setting the tone for the lesson to follow plays a vital role.
It is essential that positive comments are specific and correspond to the outcome we are commenting on to be meaningful. The words "great job" are nice, but "I liked how well-structured your argument was" are even better and provide a clear direction for other students attempting to come to a positive conclusion.
Although they listen to the teacher during the input stage, students should not be passive. The best way for me to elicit a response from students is to tell them to raise their hands or to give me a thumbs-up if they like something. There are times when learners may be able to respond in the same way through emoticons or the use of a chat pod in an online class.
Patterns of interaction
As long as it is done correctly, variety is credited with engagement, though it can be challenging to offer different interaction patterns in some settings. There are several simple strategies to use, such as varying interaction patterns so that students can work with different classmates on tasks. Alternating student pairings or groupings and encouraging students to nominate a classmate during whole class activities, whether in person or remotely, encourage turn-taking.
